A Pair of Men Detained Regarding Mobile Device Hidden in House of Commons to Reportedly Play Inappropriate Sounds During Prime Minister's Questions

Law enforcement have arrested two men related to a mobile phone discovered concealed within the parliamentary chamber, which was reportedly designed to emit inappropriate audio throughout the weekly parliamentary session.

Discovery and Investigation

The device was uncovered near the government benches during a standard security check of the chamber. It is believed it was meant to interrupt the keynote weekly showdown between political leaders in September.

An official representative stated, “Around mid-morning on Wednesday 3 September, a device was discovered while conducting a routine search of the House of Commons chamber.”

Detentions and Charges

Enquiries suggested that the device was deliberately placed in a location with the intention of causing disruption to business in the house.

  • A man in his thirties was detained on Friday 5 September on suspicion of attempting to deliberately cause a disturbance.
  • Another man in his sixties was arrested on Tuesday 30 September on suspicion of the same offence.
  • Both have been released on bail to appear at a later date.

Precautions and Impact

Increased security measures were implemented in the Commons after the phone was found. Audio tours and guided tours were cancelled, and there was reduced access to the Commons chamber.

The upper house followed suit to limit entry to the their debating area “as a precautionary measure.”

Officials noted, “Enquiries continue, and we continue to keep the parliamentary officials informed with our probe.”

Seriousness of the Event

This incident is being treated seriously as it represents a significant violation of parliamentary security. This device was located while numerous security staff based in the parliamentary area were on industrial action over pay and conditions.

As a result, the public were prohibited from the parliamentary estate. Labor representatives stated that the strike proceeded due to cutbacks in holiday time, unchanged salaries, and an wage disparity based on race.
