Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he will come through this without issue.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd would leave the hospital, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” he added. “But I will say this, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. And again, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.”

New York police released surveillance images Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was the intended victim. No other injuries according to reports.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday about halfway between MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as a free agent in spring and was expected to be a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while working his way back.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
