Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The previous series concluded in 2021 with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to tackle misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the new season will hit screens.
The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
