Vince Gilligan Reveals He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the acclaimed series coming to an end—and the next chapter already in development—the creative team opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Tremendous Fan Response

One could easily to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and online debates regarding Pluribus. He is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It's like being constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it from others, and that's by design. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Does the creator Know the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff aren't taking cues by public opinion, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“There are some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to abandon a good idea for a better idea. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
